I wanted to do a reverse canvas technique with this project. If you are not sure what that is, it’s basically taking the canvas off of the wood frame to expose the frame. Let me explain. You will want to remove the staples or what I did was take a blade and cut on the outer part of the staples. We are removing the canvas completely from the frame underneath.
Here is what you will end up with. Now, that the canvas piece is separate, take your scrapbook paper and mod podge it on to the canvas.
The next step is to you flip the staple side over and hot glue it directly on top of the canvas. Now you have what looks like a picture frame.
Next, take your blade or some scissors and trim off the excess canvas piece. Now, you may be asking why not just use a picture frame? You could do that too, but I wanted to show you how you can take a Dollar Tree canvas and create a frame. It’s a good thing to have other options, right?
You will want to grab about 10 wood biscuits and paint them orange. I used Waverly Chalk paint in the color Pumpkin on mine.
For the next step, simply start placing the wood biscuits onto your sign to create a pumpkin. First, I started with the shape. Next, I started layering the biscuits on top to create the look of a pumpkin.
To create some dimension on my pumpkin, I used Folk Art Burnt Umber paint and a paint brush and painted along the edges of the biscuits.
Add a twig for the stem!
For the final step, grab some ribbon and raffia and create a bow. Glue it on top and add a button to finish it off!
