How to Crochet a Cute Cupcake Trinket Box — Free Step-by-Step Pattern

Handmade crochet cupcake trinket box with decorative flower on the lid, ideal for small treasures.

Materials

Medium worsted weight yarn in 2 colours
Sport weight yarn for flower at the top
G/4 mm crochet hook
3 mm crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Beads or pompom for decoration

Stitches / Abbreviations

[ ] - Repeat instructions within parenthesis as a set as many times as directed
st/sts - stitch/stitches
sl st - slip stitch
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
sc2tog - single crochet worked together in two consecutive stitches (sc decrease)
tr3tog - treble 3 stitches together in same stitch

Instructions

Bottom

Round 1: Using 4 mm crochet hook and the 1st colour, make a magic ring and work 8 sc into ring. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around. (16 sc). Join.

Round 3: Repeat [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] 8 times. (24 sc). Join.

Round 4: Repeat [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] 8 times. (32 sc)

Round 5: Repeat [sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] 8 times. (40 sc)

Round 6 (back loops only): Ch 1, sc in the back loop of each st around. (40 sc)

Round 7 to 13: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (40 sc).

Round 14: Ch 1, repeat [sc in 8 sts, sc2tog] around. Join. (36 sc)

Round 15: Sl st in each st around.

Cut off yarn and weave in the loose ends.

Top (Lid)

Round 1 to 5: Same as bottom up to round 5 using the 2nd colour.

Round 6 to 10: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (50 sc)

Turn and start working in the opposite direction

Round 11 (work into back loops only): Ch 1, repeat [sc, dc, sc] in next st, sc in next st] around. Join and cut off yarn.

Flower

Round 1: Using 3 mm crochet hook make a magic ring and work 5 sc into ring.

Round 2: In each sc work [sl st, ch 4, tr3tog, ch 4, sl st]. Join and cut off yarn.

Sew flower to the top of the lid with a mini pompom or bead at the center.
