What you will Need: How to Make a Pumpkin Jar

  • Covered Jars
  • Black Paint or black spray paint
  • Orange Paint
  • Foam paint brushes
  • Spanish Moss
  • Dried Pumpkin Stems
  • Checked Ribbon
  • Hot Glue
  • Spray adhesive
  • Twine
  • Flower

Step 1: Glue the Twine

Cut pieces of twine so they fit vertically on the jar. Spray the jar with spray adhesive. Place the twine on the jar two or three pieces at a time so that there are spaces between the double or triple twine pieces. This is to create the illusion of dimension.

Step 2: Paint the Jar

Start by painting the jar and its lid black. You can use Dollar Tree paint for this or spray paint. Let it dry completely. Once the black paint has dried remove the twine. It should come off easily. Paint over it with the orange paint so that some of the black shows through. This is going to be a rustic piece. Let the paint dry completely.

Step 3: Glue the Stem

On the top of the jar lid is a handle. Glue the dried stem to the handle piece. I purchased my dried pumpkin stems on Etsy but you can dry your own if you like.

Step 4: Glue the Spanish Moss

Spray the lid with spray adhesive. Take some of the Spanish Moss and glue it around the top of the jar so that the top is covered and the stem is protruding from the top.

Step 5: Add the Ribbon

Create a bow from the checked ribbon. I did this by wrapping the ribbon around my fingers a couple of times then securing the center with a piece of twine. Pull apart the loops. Glue the bow to the jar. Add the flower. You have now finished your pumpkin jar.
