Steel crochet hook No. 7

With Green ch 66, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each of the next 31 sts of ch, 3 s c in next st of ch, 1 s c in each of the next 32 sts of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows except where stated otherwise.

2nd Row—Picking up back loop of sts only in all Green rows and working the White rows through both loops of sts, work 1 s c in each of the next 33 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 33 sts.

3rd Row—1 s c in each of the next 34 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 34 sts.

Next 3 Rows1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center st in each row.

7th Row—1 sl st in each of the next 5 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 33 s c, 3 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 33 sts.

8th Row—Same as 3rd row, cut Green, do not turn.

9th Row—Attach White at opposite end and working through both loops of sts, s c in same space, s c in next s c, * s c in base of next st of previous row, skip the st in back of s c just made, 1 s d c in base of next corresponding st of row below (s d c: thread over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time), skip the st in back of s d c just made, s c in base of next corresponding st of last row, skip the st in back of s c just made, 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, repeat from * 5 times, 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, 3 s c in next s c, 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, * s c in base of next s c of last row, skip the st in back of s c just made, s d c in corresponding st of row below, skip the st in back of s d c just made, s c in base of next st of last row, skip the st in back of st just made, 1 s c in each of the next 2 s c, repeat from * 5 times (6 patterns on each side), cut White, do not turn.

10th Row—Attach Green at opposite end and working through back loop of sts only, 1 s c in each st working 3 s c in center st.

11th Row—1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center st and increasing 1 s c at beginning and end of row. Repeat the last row 3 times.

15th and 16th Rows1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center st in each row.

17th Row—1 sl st in each of the next 9 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 38 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 38 sts.

18th Row—1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center s c (81 s c), cut Green, do not turn.

19th Row—Same as 9th row but having 7 patterns on each side, cut White, do not turn.

Repeat from 10th through the 16th row.

27th Row— * Sl st in each of the next 14 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 38 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 38 sts.

28th Row—Same as 18th row.

29th Row—Same as 19th row. Repeat from 10th through the 16th row.

Repeat from * once.

47th Row—1 sl st in each of the next 20 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 32 sts, 3 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 32 sts.

Next 2 Rows1 s c in each s c working 3 s c in center st in each row, cut thread.

TRUNKAttach Green in 6th st from center st of lower edge and working through both loops of sts for entire trunk work 1 s c in same space, s c in next st, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, tr c in center st, 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row—1 s c in each of the 13 sts, ch 1, turn. Repeat last row 9 times, cut thread. This is the front section. Work another section in same manner reversing the colors except the trunk. With wrong sides together, crochet the 2 sections together as follows: Attach White in first st of last row and work in pattern st same as 9th row across the top and all branches facing upward, working a ch 3 picot at each point, work in s c when working downward between the branches and across lower edge and around trunk, cut White.

STARWith White cover a ½ inch bone ring having 25 s c around, join.

Next Row—* Ch 6, sl st in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in next st of ch, 1 s d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts of ch, skip 3 s c on ring, 1 sl st in each of the next 2 s c, repeat from * 4 times, but ending last point with skip 3 s c on ring, sl st in next s c, cut thread. Sew to top of holder as illustrated.

OrnamentsWith “STAR” SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY COTTON ch 2, 8 s c in 2nd st from hook, join, cut thread. Work 23 more ornaments in same manner in colors desired and sew to front of holder as illustrated.
