Directions
The Potholder is composed of two parts, that are joined together with the border row
Front
Start with A, 7 ch, join with sl st in first ch
1. 14 sc in lp, join with sl st to first st.
2. *(3 dc in next sc, skip next sc, 1 ch)*; Repeat * to* 6 times more, join with sl st to first st.
3. *(2 dc on next dc, dc on next dc, 2 dc on next dc, 4 ch)*; Repeat * to* 6 times more, join with sl st to first st.
4. *(sk 2 dc, sc on next dc, sk 2 dc, 8 dc in next 4-ch lp)*; Repeat * to* 6 times more, join with sl st to first st.
5.sl st to second dc, [(sc on next dc) 4 times, sk 2 dc, 7 ch, sk 2 dc] *; Repeat * to* 6 times more, join with sl st to first sc.
6.(sk sc, dc on next sc, 2 ch, sk sc, dc in next sc, 2 ch, sk next sc) *; Repeat * to* 6 times more, join with sl st to first st =>14 dc-grp.
7. [(hdc, 1 ch, hdc)= hdc shell in next 2ch-lp] *; Repeat * to* 13 times more, join with sl st to first sc. Cut thread
Back
With B, 6 ch, join with sl st in first ch.
1. 12 sc in lp, join with sl st in first sc
2. *2 sc in ea sc*; Repeat * to * all around, join with sl st to first st.
3-12. crochet sc rounds, making increments evenly to obtain a flat circle, approx of the same size of front (if it is necessary, crochet a row more or a row less).
13. In this row you join the front to back: put back sides of two pieces adjacently, sc in ea sc, joining EVENLY front to back in this way: sc in first sc, inserting hook also in front first hdc shell, make an EVEN number of sc to skip next hdc shell and join third hdc shell, and so on. At the end of the row, you should have joined 14 shells.
TIP: Count how many scs you have in 12th round of back and divide by 28 (the number of hdc shells you have at the end of front piece). The result is the EVEN number (more or less) you need in row 13.
Border
With A, join in a sc and crochet (sc in next sc, 2 ch) all around: Finish with sl st in first sc. Do not cut thread. Hole : 12 ch, sk a lp, join in next sc with a sl st, turn, sc in ea ch, join with a sl st in last sc of border. Cut thread, weave in ends.
Cut thread, weave in ends
N.B.
- Always substitute (also if not explicitly said) first st in a row as follows:
- first sc with 1 ch, sc;
- first hdc with 2 ch;
- first dc with 3 ch;
- first tr with 4 ch...and so on;
- When you read "sl st to <location>", where the location is not immediately contiguous to last st, this means of course "an appropriate number of sl sts for reaching <location>".
- Also if I do not specify it, if you lasted prev row on a st (say st1), while you must start next row in another st (say st2), make an appropriate number of sl sts to reach st2.
