<> Crochet hook: 4 mm and 2.5 mm.

<> Use Caron Simply Soft (weight 4) yarn for the body part and ears. For the eyes, use a lighter weight yarn in black and white (weight 2). If you don’t have lighter weight yarn, you can split medium-weight yarn in half, as I did, to achieve a similar effect.

<> Keychain (optionally), yarn needle, wooden or plastic beads ( 7-10 mm), fiber for stuffing.

Gauge: 15 stitches = 4 inches (double crochet swatch)

Width: 8 cm (3”)

Height: 9 cm (3.5”)

Bear key cover crochet pattern:

Crochet bear’s body:

Use gray yarn and a 4 mm hook

Round 1: Begin with a magic ring, ch 2, work 8 HDC into the ring. Join with a sl st to the 1st HDC. (8 sts)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 HDC in the same stitch as the join, then 2 HDC in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (16 sts)

Round 3: Ch 2, 2 HDC in the same stitch as the join, HDC in the next stitch; *2 HDC in the next stitch, HDC in the following stitch; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. (24 sts)

Rounds 4-10: Ch 2, HDC in each stitch around. (24 sts)

Round 11: ch 1, sl st in each st around. Cut the yarn, then join invisibly using a yarn needle.

Bear ears (make 2):

Use gray yarn (4) and a 4 mm hook

Round 1: Begin with a magic ring, work 5 SC into the ring. Join with a sl st to the 1st SC. (5 sts)

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 SC in the same stitch as the join, then 2 SC in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (10 sts)

Rounds 3-5: Ch 1, SC in each stitch around. (10 sts) Cut the yarn leaving a 15 cm tail. Sew the ears to the body in the spot you like best.

Crochet bear’s eyes (make 2):

Use black yarn (2) and a 2.5 mm hook.

Round 1: Begin with a magic ring, work 7 SC into the ring. Then join, changing the yarn color to white. (7 sts)

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 HDC in the same stitch as the join, then 2 HDC in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (14 sts). Cut the yarn leaving a 15 cm tail. To finish, embroider two small white stitches on each black pupil to add cute highlights. Then, sew the eyes in place.

Crochet bear’s nose:

Use white yarn (2) and a 2.5 mm hook.

Round 1: Ch 6, SC in the 2nd ch from the hook, SC in the next 3 chs, 3 SC in the last ch. Working on the opposite side, SC in the next 3 chs, 2 SC in the last ch. Join with a sl st to the first SC. (12 sts)

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 SC in the same stitch as the join, SC in next 5 sts, 2 SC in next st, SC in next 5 sts. Join with a sl st to the first SC. (14 sts)

Rounds 3-4: Ch 1, SC in each stitch around. (14 sts)

Embroider a small oval and a couple of stitches to mimic the bear’s muzzle at the center of the nose. Lightly stuff it with fiberfill, and sew the nose securely in place.

Inner anchor chain:

Ch 55 or until the chain measures 27-30 cm (10-11 in). Attach a metal keychain, then pull both ends through the center of the body (from inside to outside). Thread wooden beads onto each end and tie knots to secure them.
