For my personal scarf, I used 3 x balls of Lion Brand Landscapes in the shade “Desert Spring” with a 6mm Hook
My scarf measures approximately 7 inches (18cm) wide by 88 inches (223cm) in length.
Abbreviations:
● Ch = Chain
● Ch sp = Chain space
● SC = Single crochet
● DC = Double crochet
● Rep = Repeat
● Sl st = Slip stitch
● St = Stitch
Shell: 4 DC, ch 2, 4 DC
Stacked Double Crochet: Insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop so that there are two loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through to complete a single crochet stitch.
Put your hook in the stitch you just created, yarn over, pull up a loop so that there are two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through to complete the stitch.
Crochet Shell Stitch Scarf
Foundation Row: Ch multiples of 8 plus 4 (this will be the width of the scarf).
For my scarf I chained 28.
Row 1: Starting in the fourth ch from the hook, make (3 DC, ch 2, 4 DC) in the same ch to form the first shell.
Rep *skip 3 ch, 1 SC, skip 3 ch, 1 shell* across.
You will end the row on a shell. Ch 1 and rotate to work into the other side of the foundation row. In the center of each shell across, make 1 shell.
At the end, sl st to join in the first ch.
Row 2: Turn and make 4 sl st until you reach the ch sp of the first shell.
Make 1 Stacked Double Crochet, 3 DC, ch 2, 4 DC in the ch sp for the first shell.
In the ch sp of each shell across, make 1 shell.
You will NOT rotate the scarf to work on the other end. The rest of the rows are worked back and forth in short rows.
Row 3: Turn and make 4 sl st until you reach the ch sp of the first shell.
Make 1 Stacked Double Crochet, 3 DC, ch 2, 4 DC in the ch sp for the first shell.
In the ch sp of each shell across, make 1 shell.
Rows 4-onward: Rep row 3 for as long as you want your scarf to be.
When you’ve reached your desired length, fasten off and cut the yarn. Weave in your ends and enjoy!
