DIY Kids Tote Bag

Looking to spark your child's creativity and style? DIY kids tote bags are a fantastic project to unleash your little one's artistic talents! Not only will your child have a blast customizing their own bag, but they'll also feel a sense of pride when showing off their unique creation. So, grab some fabric and let the crafting fun begin!

Materials Needed:

2 bandanas in coordinating colors or patterns
Scissors

Step 1: Select Your Bandanas

Start by choosing two bandanas that complement each other. Opt for bright and cheerful colors or fun patterns to add a playful touch to your tote bag. I highly recommend using 100% cotton bandanas over the cheap polyester ones if you want your bags to last.

Step 2: Prepare Your Bandanas

Lay your 2 bandanas on top of eachother with the “right side” facing in. Or back side of your bandana facing out. We will be turning these inside out at the end.

Step 3: Prepare the Straps
Cut the border of 1 side of your bandana off. This will serve as the strap for your tote bag. Tie the two pieces together to make one large strap. Set it aside for now.
Step 3: Create Tabs Along the Sides

Using your scissors, make 1 to 2-inch cuts along the other 3 sides the bandana. When you get to the corners, make small triangles (see picture below). These cuts will become the tabs that we’ll tie together to form the bag.

Step 4: Tie the Tabs

Match the corresponding tabs on each side of the bandanas, and tie them together in a secure knot. Make sure to double-knot them for added durability. Continue tying the tabs all the way around the bandana until you reach the other side.

Step 5: Attach the Strap

Take the bandana strap you set aside earlier and tie each end securely to the top corners of the tote bag. Ensure the knots are tight and secure.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

Once you’ve tied all the tabs and attached the strap, give your tote bag a gentle shake to even out the shape and ensure the knots are secure. Turn your bag inside out to reveal the beautiful braided edge all along the bag!

Step 7: Repeat and Experiment

Feel free to make multiple tote bags using different bandana combinations.
