Materials:

  • US-I, 5.5 mm hook, Furls
  • 35 yds Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie (4 - Medium; 100% cotton: 153 yds / 140 m, 3½ oz/100 g)
  • Colorways Shown: Royal and Loofa
  • This yarn is discontinued. Recommended Substitute: Lily Sugar'n Cream
  • Stitch Markers
Gauge: 14 sts and 12 rows = 4” [10 cm]
Size: 4¼” [11 cm] wide by 4½” [11.5 cm] long excluding fringe

SPECIAL STITCH

Tr2tog (treble 2 together): Yo twice and insert hook in first indicated st, yo and pull up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice, yo twice and insert hook in second indicated stitch, yo and pull up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES

This pattern uses 2 active loops, one for each color of yarn.
Use a marker to secure the loop you are not currently using so the previous row does not unravel.

Row 1 (RS): With first color, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next 2 ch, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in each next 3 ch; repeat from * to end, turn. (12 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st to end, turn. (15 dc) Remove hook from loop and place marker (pm) in open first color loop.
Row 3: Join next color with sc in first st, working in front of previous row, tr in first skipped ch of foundation row, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st, *tr2tog in previous skipped ch of foundation row and next skipped ch of foundation row, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st; repeat from * to last 2 sts, tr in last skipped ch of foundation row, sc in last st; turn.

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st to end, turn. Remove hook from loop and pm in open second color loop.

FINISHING

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Cut 40 pcs of yarn approximately 6” [15 cm] each, and attach fringes to mug rug in 5 groups of 4 strands evenly spaced across each end of Rug as follows:

Fold group of 4 strands at center. Use hook to pull center of strands through edge st, then pull ends of strands through the resulting loop and pull until tight.
