Crochet A Summer Cloche Hat

Crochet A Summer Cloche Hat

Materials:

  • 2 skeins of DK weight cotton yarn
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Brim:

Row 1: Chain 17

Row 2: Single crochet (sc) in second chain from hook, sc in each chain across (16 sc)

Row 3: Chain 1, turn. Sc in each stitch across (16 sc) Repeat Row 3 until brim measures desired length (approx. 16 inches)

Hat Body:

Round 1: Slip stitch (sl st) in the back loop of each stitch around the brim (do not turn)

Round 2: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around (16 sc)

Round 3-8: Repeat Round 2 (16 sc)

Decrease:

Round 9: Chain 1, sc in first 2 stitches, then single crochet 2 stitches together (sc2tog). Repeat this pattern around the hat (12 sc)

Round 10: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around (12 sc)

Round 11: Chain 1, sc in first stitch, sc2tog, repeat around (8 sc)

Round 12: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around (8 sc)

Finish:

Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail. Using a yarn needle, weave the tail in and out of the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Weave in ends and enjoy your new Summer Cloche!

Your instructions don't make sense. For the brim you say to slip stitch in back loops all around. Then chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around. (16sc). There are more single crochet stitches around than 16 stitches. Then you say to decrease from 16 to 12 to 8. How is that possible. Do you sew the ends of the brim together? You don't say. You have left out a lot of instructions. Please clarify your instructios. Thank you.
