Materials

  • White polymer clay
  • Yellow polymer clay
  • Rolling pin
  • Letter fondant cutters
  • Oven-safe baking sheet for craft use
  • Optional polymer clay sealant (for a glossy look)

How to make the fried egg place cards

  1. Create a ball of white clay about the size of a golf ball. Roll it out into an asymmetric fried-egg shape; use an X-acto knife to trim edges if needed so it looks organic rather than perfectly round.
  2. Roll a small ball of yellow clay (about the size of a gumball) and gently squash it to form a domed yolk. Press the yolk into the center of each white base so it adheres.
  3. Use letter fondant cutters to press the first letter of each guest’s name into the white part of the egg, creating a cut-out or impressed initial.
  4. Place all the eggs on your oven-safe craft baking sheet and bake according to the polymer clay manufacturer's instructions. (Suggested from this project: bake at 275°F for 15 minutes.)
  5. Let the pieces cool completely. If you like a glossy finish, apply a polymer clay glaze or sealant; otherwise leave them matte for a more natural look.

Finishing tips: arrange the eggs on top of napkins or plates, tuck them into napkin rings, or lean them against place settings so each guest can find their seat. They also make charming keepsakes that guests can take home.
