How to Make a Bumble Bee Decoration

1. Prepare your workspace by covering it with newspaper or a drop cloth. If your flower pot is not already yellow, spray paint or paint it yellow and allow it to dry fully before moving on.

2. Once the paint is dry, wrap white thread or twine around the outside of the pot at a diagonal for texture. Secure the thread at intervals with hot glue and trim the end, bonding it in place with glue.

3. Make the bees from foam paper: draw two connected circles — one larger for the body and one smaller for the head — then cut that shape out. Use the first cutout as a template to make 2–3 layers for each bee to give dimension.

4. For wings, trace a simple wing shape on white cardboard and cut out one set per bee. Use a black permanent marker to draw stripes, eyes and a mouth on the yellow foam body pieces. Cut small black circles or ovals from the black foam to create antennae and other accents. You can also cut a small door shape from black foam to glue onto the pot as an extra decorative detail.

5. Hot glue one bee and the foam door onto the front of the flower pot. On the opposite side, secure lengths of floral wire to the pot with hot glue — these wires will hold the flying bees above the planter.

6. Hot glue additional bee bodies to the ends of the floral wires. Bend and arrange the wires so the bees appear to hover above the pot. Trim any excess wire and make sure all glued pieces are firmly attached.

7. Final touches: check for loose edges, add an extra bead of hot glue where needed, and consider sealing the painted pot with a clear outdoor spray sealer if the planter will be exposed to rain.
