Notes
I created this pattern using worsted weight yarn, but you can use any yarn size you prefer. I even transformed this pattern into a crochet mushroom bookmark using embroidery thread, and it turned out to be under an inch tall!

While I used red and white yarn for my version, feel free to choose any colors that inspire you to add your personal touch. You could even experiment with psychedelic variegated yarn for a truly unique look.

The crochet mushroom keychain pattern measures about 2 inches tall when made with worsted weight yarn and a 4.5mm hook.

Instructions

The crochet mushroom keychain pattern is made in the round.
Round 1: With the red yarn, make a mr and scx6 inside of it. Pull the mr tight and slip stitch to the first stitch in the mr to complete the circle (6).
Round 2: Inc in every stitch (12).
Round 3: Inc, and then sc. Repeat for the rest of the round (18).
Round 4: Inc, and then sc x2. Repeat for the rest of the round (24).
Round 5: Sc in every stitch (24). Fasten off the red yarn and switch to white.
Round 6: With the white yarn, dec and then sc. Repeat for the rest of the round (16).
Round 7: Dec in every stitch (8). Add polyfill, but do not over stuff the cap.
Round 8-10: Sc in every stitch (8). After the last round fasten off the yarn but leave a very long yarn tail for embroidery work. Add more polyfill to the base.

Finishing:

Using the yarn and needle, thread through the center of the mushroom cap and pull tight. If you’re adding a keychain, attach it now, or create a loop if you’re making an ornament. Then, secure the yarn back to the top by threading it through nearby stitches in round 1.
Next, pull the yarn down through the bottom of the mushroom stem and secure it there. Reinsert the needle into the stem and pull it through the second round of white yarn near the middle of the mushroom (the first round of 8 stitches). Weave your yarn in and out of the stitches in that round, pulling tight to define the mushroom stem further. Again, secure the yarn.

Now you can use your yarn and needle to embroider the white spots on top of the mushroom. Once you're finished, secure your yarn and fasten off any leftover ends.
And now you have a finished crochet mushroom keychain! If you are looking to make any other crochet mushroom projects, check out my crochet mushroom coaster pattern.
