Materials: ( I used )

4mm crochet hook
Light weight/ DK yarn: white ( as color A ), grey ( as color B ) ( about 300 gr for the sample – size L/ 100 gr or 328 yds per skein )
Yarn needle
Scissors

Note: I used chainless starting dc for every first dc of each row/ round instead of ch 3. There’s another good crochet technique to use is ch 2, dc into same stitch ( counted as 1st dc). In the pattern below you’ll see I simply state dc into 1st stitch for every first dc of each row/ round, so choose your best technique 

This crochet layered lapel vest pattern fits size L ( chest size: 36 to 38 inches )

Skill level: Easy

Gauge: cluster of crochet stitches ( dc, ch1, skip 1 st ) x 5 times approximately 2 inches ( with materials indicated )

Vest:
Back piece: work in rows
Start with color A yarn,
R1: Ch 81, dc into 3rd ch ( first 2 ch doesn’t count as 1st dc ), ch1, skip 1 ch, ( dc into next ch, ch1, skip 1 ch ) x 38 times across, dc into last ch, turn.
R2: dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, ( dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space ) x 38 times across, dc into last st, turn.
R3: same as R2
R4: change to color B yarn, sc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, ( sc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space ) x 38 times across, sc into last st, turn.
R5: change to color A yarn, dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, ( dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space ) x 38 times across, dc into last st, turn.
R6: dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, ( dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space ) x 38 times across, dc into last st, turn.
R7: same as R6
R8: change to color B yarn, sc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, ( sc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space ) x 38 times across, sc into last st, turn.
Repeat from ( R5 to R8 ) x 17 times, until you reach R72
R73: change to color A yarn, dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, ( dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space ) x 38 times across, dc into last st, turn.
R74: dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, ( dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space ) x 38 times across, dc into last st, turn.
R75: same as R74 ( fasten off )
Front piece: ( make 2 )
Same as Back piece
Seam shoulder lines with sc or sl ( 19 sts on each side )
Seam body lines with sc or sl ( 57 rows from the bottom up )
Sc around armholes as border.

Collar: work in rows
Start with color B yarn
R1: Join yarn and insert hook into 1 side of the neckline, sc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, * sc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space * repeat ** across, sc into last st, turn.
R2: Change to color A yarn, dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, * dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space * repeat ** across, dc into last st, turn.
R3: dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, * dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space * repeat ** across, dc into last st, turn.
R4: same as R3
R5: Change to color B yarn, sc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, * sc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space * repeat ** across, sc into last st, turn.
Repeat from ( R2 to R5 ) x 3 times until you reach R17
R18: Change to color A yarn, dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, * dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space * repeat ** across, dc into last st, turn.
R19: dc into 1st st, ch1, skip next ch1-space, * dc into next st, ch1, skip next ch1-space * repeat ** across, dc into last st, turn.
R20: same as R19 ( fasten off, weave in ends )
