For this project you will need:
HOOK: 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US
YARN: 1 skein of worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU
100 grams / 3.5. oz
210 meters / 230 yards
ABBREVIATIONS
ch = Chain
st = Stitch
sl st = Slip Stitch
DC = Double Crochet
TRC = Triple Crochet
YO = Yarn Over
beg = beginning
* = Repeat what’s in between * for rest of row
Special stitch: Triple Crochet Cluster (TRC Cluster ) – YO twice, insert hook into space, YO pull through 2 loops, YO pull through 2 loops, leaving the last loop on the hook. Repeat 4 more times until you have 6 loops remaining on your hook. YO and pull through all 6 loops.
The only exception is the first Cluster of a round. Where you will have a ch 3 as your first stitch, and you will do 4 Incomplete TRC leaving the last loop on the hook and you will have only 5 loops instead of 6 as shown in the picture below.
To start:
ch 4 and sl st in beg ch to form a ring
Round 1
ch 2 and dc 11 into center ring (12 sts)
Round 2
ch 3 and skip a st, sl st into next, repeat 5 more times, giving you 6 little ch 3 spaces. Sl st in the beg st where you started.
Round 3
ch 1 and sl st into the 1st ch 3 space and ch 3, work a TRC cluster, remember the very first TRC cluster of the round will only have 5 loops when finished as explained above under special stitch.
Once you have pulled through all 5 loops, ch 6 and do another *TRC cluster, pull through all 6 loops and ch 6. * You will repeat this for each ch 3 space around giving you 6 total petals.
Since the ending slip stitch will count as a chain, for the last space before you connect, chain only 5 and sl st in the top of the beginning cluster as shown below to end the round.
Round 4
Sl st in 1st ch 6 space and ch 3, do a TRC cluster, pull through all 5 loops and ch 6. Do another TRC cluster worked in the same ch 6 space.
* ch 6 and in next ch 6 space work a TRC Cluster, ch 6, TRC Cluster * Repeat for round giving you 2 petals in each ch 6 space around, 12 petals. SL st in top of beg cluster to end the round.
Round 5
Repeat Round 4 giving you 24 petals.
Round 6 – Note this round you are only chaining 5
sl st into 1st ch 6 space, ch 3 and do a TRC cluster, pull thorough all 5 loops and * ch 5 working in the next ch 5 space do a TRC * repeat for round. You should have 24 petals still after this round.
Round 7
ch 2 and dc in same beg st * dc 3 in next ch 5 space, dc 2 in top of cluster* repeat for round,to end sl st in beg ch 2 ( 120 sts )
