  • Candy or keepsakes to put inside (optional)

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • Inc = increase (2 dc in same stitch)
  • BL = back loops
  • FPdc = front post double crochet

Special Stitch

  • Pattern uses an invisible join for rounds where noted

Crochet Heart Basket Pattern Instructions

Rnd 1: Using MR, 12 dc in ring, pull to close, sl st in first st using invisible join [12]

For Rnds 2–5 you will be working in back loops only.

Rnd 2: ch 2, Inc in each st around, join as before [24]

Rnd 3: ch 2, dc next, Inc next around, join [36]

Rnd 4: ch 2, dc next 2, Inc next around, join [48]

Rnd 5: ch 2, dc each st around, join [48]

From Rnd 6 onward you will be working through both loops.

Rnd 6: ch 2, dc next 2, FPdc next, around, join [32 dc, 16 FPdc]

Rnd 7: Repeat Rnd 6, do not join at end of the round. Leaving a long tail, fasten off.

Fold the un-joined ends together to form the heart shape, aligning the points and curves. Use the long tail and a tapestry needle to tack the folded edges together securely. Weave in and trim the end. Shape the basket by gently pinching and arranging the heart curves until you achieve the desired look.

Finishing Tips

  • Use a large-eye tapestry needle to neatly tack and weave in ends.
  • If you want a sturdier basket, use a tighter tension or consider lining it with felt (optional).
  • Vary yarn colors or add a small crochet loop at the top to hang the basket as a small decoration or ornament.

Enjoy your sweet crochet heart basket—perfect as a tiny gift container or a charming accent in your home.
