Materials
- Crochet hook I/9 - 5.50 mm
- Scissors
- 1 skein Yarn Bee Effervesce Willowy (or similar yarn)
- Yarn sewing needle
- Brooch of your choice (to secure and decorate the join)
Stitch abbreviations
SC = single crochet | HDC = half double crochet | DC = double crochet | SS = slip stitch | ST(S) = stitch(es) | CH = chain
Pattern
- CH 11.
- Row 1: Turn and HDC across the entire row.
- Turn. Row 2: DC across the entire row.
- Turn. Row 3: HDC across the entire row.
- Continue alternating HDC and DC for each row until you reach Row 31.
- Once you complete Row 31, cut the yarn and weave in the end.
Finishing
- With your hook, work SC around the entire outer edge of the finished rectangle to create a neat border.
- Cut the yarn and weave in the end.
- Using a yarn sewing needle and a short length of yarn (~1/2 inch as noted), sew the two short ends of the crocheted piece together securely. Scrunch the join slightly to form the headband shape — this is where the brooch will be placed.
- Attach your chosen brooch by clipping or pinning it over the sewn join to conceal the seam and add a decorative touch.
Notes & tips
- Try the headband on before stitching the final join to check the fit; you can adjust how much you scrunch the seam for a tighter or looser band.
- Choose a brooch that suits your style — secure it well so it stays in place when worn.
- When weaving in ends, pull tails through several stitches to keep them secure.
Viola! Your vintage-inspired crochet headband is ready to wear.
