For great results it is always best to use the recommended yarn, I have used approximately:

100 grams of King Cole Comfort Aran yarn

6.00mm Clover Crochet Hook

UK INSTRUCTIONS:

The eight BLO dc’s at the end of the 2nd Rows and beginning of the 3rd Rows are for the brim.

Make 42ch, work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, (RS) 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. you should have 41 stitches.

2nd Row – 1ch, 1dc into stitch at the base of 1ch, * 1tr into next dc, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 8dc, working into BLO work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.

3rd Row – Working into BLO for this row, make 1ch, work 1dc into the stitch at the base of the 1ch, 1dc into each of the next 7dc, working through both loops work 1dc into each dc and tr to last dc, work 1dc into dc. Turn.

Repeat the 2nd & 3rd Rows until you have worked 67 rows in all or your work measures approx 18 inches, you can if you wish add more rows here to make the beanie wider.

Fold your work in half widthways and then slip stitch the last row you worked and your starting chain edge together to make a round. Fasten off the yarn.

Re-join the yarn so you are working into the row ends. This will be the opposite end to your brim.

Top of Beanie – 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1 row end, 1dc into next row end, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off your yarn leaving a long length to gather the top. You should have 34 dc.

Finishing – Weave in loose yarn through the last row of dc’s, pull to gather and secure.
