DIY Yarn-Wrapped Carrots: Easy Spring & Easter Craft
Yarn-wrapped carrots are an easy, budget-friendly craft that adds charm to spring and Easter decor. Using a simple cone-shaped base, orange yarn and a bit of green ribbon, you can make a bunch of whimsical carrots in under an hour. This project is great for crafters of all skill levels and makes cute table decorations, mantel accents, or simple gifts.

You need just a few supplies:
- Make It Fun styrofoam cones (available at Joann’s)
- Orange yarn
- Green ric rac ribbon
- Styrofoam cutter (a butterknife will work, too)
- Straight pins and a small U-shaped pin to secure the ribbon
From the collage you can tell this cute project is pretty self-explanatory, but here are a few clear steps and tips to get a neat finish:
- Shape the cone into a carrot form. Use a styrofoam cutter or butterknife to trim the top and taper the tip. (The original project recycled the cut edges from the top to form the tip of the carrot.)
- Start winding the orange yarn near the top of the cone and wrap tightly and evenly toward the tip. Keep the yarn snug so the styrofoam doesn't show through.
- To keep loose ends and any gaps secure, push straight pins into the cone around the top and bottom areas as needed. The example used about 15 pins per carrot, placed toward the top and bottom only.
- For the green top: wrap the ric rac ribbon around your hand about five times, cut it from the spool so it stays in one bundled piece, then place that bundle on the top of the carrot and secure it with a small U-shaped pin.
- Once the ric rac is pinned in place, trim the tips so the ribbon pieces are individual and resemble carrot greens.
Tips: Keep tension consistent while wrapping for a smooth look. If you want sturdier tops, twist or glue extra ribbon layers before pinning. These yarn-wrapped carrots work well grouped together for a seasonal display.
Have fun making a bunch in different sizes—they're a sweet, handmade touch for spring decorating.
