DIY Wood Frame Gradient Vase — Easy 5-Frame Tutorial for Colorful Home Decor
Brighten a shelf or table with this simple DIY Wood Frame Gradient Vase. Using five small wood frames painted in graduated shades, a coaster base and a jar in the center, you can create a stylish vase that holds real flowers or a faux arrangement. Supplies: 5 small wood frames, a coaster, paint in 5 shades of the same color (or mix to create shades), a glue gun, and a glass or plastic container (mason jar shown) to hold water and flowers if desired.

The supplies necessary for this project are really basic. You’ll need 5 small wood frames, a coaster, desired paint in different shades, and a glue gun. You’ll also need a glass or plastic container that fits inside of the completed vase if you’re planning on using real flowers. Begin by painting the edges and one side of one of the frames in the lightest shade of color.
Step 1: Paint the edges and one side of the lightest frame.
Continue painting each frame a darker shade of the color. If you don’t have 5 tubes of the same color in different shades, you can just wing it by adding a bit of white to lighten the color or more of the darkest shade to darken. It’s tons easier if you just buy tubes of shades to complete the gradient look though! Don’t forget to paint the darkest frame on both the edges and one of the sides.
Step 2: Paint all frames in graduated shades and let them dry completely.
Allow the colors to dry completely. Apply hot glue to the edge of the coaster and place over bottom of darkest color frame.
Step 3: Attach a coaster to the bottom of the darkest frame to form the base.
Begin gluing frames together with an ample amount of glue from your glue gun.
Step 4: Use hot glue to stack and secure each frame, working from dark to light.
Continue gluing and pressing the frames together until your vase is almost completed. The final frame (in the lightest color) should be glued upright so that the painted edge creates a finished look.
Step 5: Glue frames until the structure is stable; leave the top open for the jar.
