Instructions for the Denim Gift Bag

Repurpose the back of an old pair of jeans to cover a plain gift bag.

Cut part of the back of the jeans to the approximate size of the gift bag and attach it to the gift bag with hot glue. Line up the top of the bag with the waistband of the jeans so the pocket and waistband sit nicely at the top.

Cut the denim to size and align the waistband with the top of the bag.

Flip the bag over and trim the excess denim to match the size of the gift bag so the edges are neat and even.

Flip the bag and trim excess denim to match the bag's edges.

Trim the excess off of a stitched seam of the jeans. You will be using the stitched seam in the next step to cover any raw edge and add a finished look.

Cut a stitched seam from the jeans to use as a clean edge piece.

Hot glue the stitched seam piece to the bottom of the gift bag just under the back pocket to cover the raw denim edge and create a polished finish.

Glue the stitched seam in place beneath the back pocket to hide raw edges.

Fill the bag with layered white tissue and fold a bandana or a piece of red tissue paper into a triangle and fit it into the back pocket for a pop of color and an extra decorative touch.

Finish the look with tissue paper and tuck a bandana into the back pocket for extra flair.

Extra tips: test the fit of the denim on the bag before gluing, and consider adding buttons, patches, or a ribbon for personalization. This method is a quick, low-waste way to give old jeans a second life while creating memorable gift presentation.
