Upcycled Tin Can: Paint the Base

I decided to make a DIY pillar candle holder out of a recycled 10 oz. tin can and surround it with Dollar Tree bunnies. Start by painting the tin can inside and out. I used gold leaf spray paint to cover the can; it worked perfectly. You can also use black, brown, off-white, or whatever paint you have on hand for a different look.

How to Paint the Dollar Tree Bunnies

The Dollar Tree bunnies have small fuzzy tails, so they need a careful finish. Instead of brushing on paint, I used gold Rub N Buff. Apply a small amount to a folded paper towel and rub it over the wooden bunny to cover the front and back areas. Use a small brush to work carefully around the bunny tail so you don't get wax on the fuzz.

Attach the Bunnies to the Tin Can

Attach the bunnies with hot glue: add hot glue to the bottom half of each bunny's back, press the bunny onto the painted can and hold for a few seconds. Make sure the bottom of each wood bunny is even with the bottom of the tuna can. Continue aligning the bunnies next to each other until you completely circle the can.

Place a battery-operated flicker candle inside the finished can and enjoy your new upcycled bunny pillar candle holder. That’s it!
