Transform Pasta into Colorful DIY Cake Stands — Easy, Budget-Friendly Tutorial

Painted pasta cake stands are a playful, budget-friendly way to showcase cupcakes, small cakes, or other desserts. This easy DIY uses uncooked pasta glued to plastic cups, then painted for a whimsical textured finish — perfect for birthdays, baby showers, or any dessert table that needs a pop of color.

Supplies:

• Uncooked pasta (various types)
• Plastic cups
• Hot glue gun
• Paper / plastic plates
• Folk Art Acrylic Paint

Step 1
Hot-glue pasta noodles onto a plastic cup. Work in small sections so the glue doesn't set before you press the pasta into place.

Step 2
Play around with different types of pasta and different designs, patterns, and layouts to create interesting textures and shapes.

Step 3
For the cake stands pictured, we used cups of three different heights and attached pasta in different patterns for a mix-and-match look. You may need to cut or break some of the pasta noodles to complete your design.

Step 4
Paint the cups. Use multiple light coats and move the cup around to cover all angles — there can be sneaky nooks and crannies in and around the pasta. Let dry completely between coats.

Step 5
Depending on how you plan to use the stands, simply place a regular plate on top or attach a paper/plastic plate with hot glue for more stability. These stands are ideal for lightweight desserts and make a cheerful addition to any table.

Tips: mix heights and colors for visual interest, try contrasting plates for a cleaner look, and handle hot glue and broken pasta pieces carefully.
