Easter Wreath Supplies

  • Round wire wreath forms (2) — you’ll sandwich the moss and eggs between them
  • Spanish moss (brown) — buy extra so the moss fills the form
  • Speckled plastic Easter eggs — 12 standard-size eggs (mix colors as you like)
  • Bunny wood cutout
  • Ribbon — to tie around the bunny’s neck and for a bow
  • Jute (or matching pipe cleaners) — to tie the two wreath forms together
  • Optional: hairspray to set the moss, or chicken wire ribbon to wrap the wreath

Tip: The author sourced all the above items at Dollar Tree—one trip, nine items total.

All supplies laid out: wreath frames, Spanish moss, speckled eggs, wooden bunny, ribbon and jute.

Instructions

This craft can easily be completed in under an hour. Working with Spanish moss can be messy—do the project on a surface that is easy to clean.

Step 1

Place Moss Inside Wreath Form

Lay the first wire wreath frame face side down (the inner and outer edges curve up away from the table). Place a layer of Spanish moss inside the wreath form. Use about a bag and a half so the wreath form is covered but not overly bulky. Gently pull the moss into long pieces rather than tearing it into small bits—this helps the moss hold together in the finished wreath.

Spanish moss layered inside the wire wreath form to create the base.

Step 2

Place Eggs on Moss

Arrange 12 plastic Easter eggs over the moss, spacing them evenly like numbers on a clock. Nestle each egg into the moss by gently pulling the moss apart where each egg sits. Use the colors you prefer; the author used pink, white, blue and yellow.

Step 3

Attach Second Wreath Form

Place the second wire wreath form over the eggs with its curve facing down so the moss and eggs are sandwiched between the two forms.

Second wreath form placed over the eggs to sandwich the moss and eggs between the two frames.

Cut 12 pieces of jute about 8 inches long. Use the jute to tie the top and bottom wreath forms together—tighten and tie a double knot. There should be about 3/4" of space between the forms. Tie in six places along the outside edge and six places along the inside edge. Pull the knots to the back of the wreath and trim excess jute.

Jute ties secure the two wreath forms; knots are tightened and trimmed.

Here’s what the back of the wreath looks like at this point:

Step 4

Tidy the Moss

Use your fingers to tuck any moss sticking out back between the frames and around the eggs. Trim any remaining stray pieces with scissors for a neater finish.

Optional: If you plan to hang the wreath outdoors or in a breezy spot, secure the moss by spraying the wreath liberally with hairspray outside to stiffen the moss, or wrap the wreath with chicken wire ribbon for extra hold.

Step 5

Add the Bunny

Tie a small bow around the wooden bunny’s neck with ribbon. Decide where the bunny will sit on the wreath and use plenty of hot glue to adhere the bunny to the wreath form and any eggs it contacts.
