Turn an Empty Plastic Bottle into a Cute Eco-Friendly Easter Basket — Easy Step-by-Step
Make a cute, budget-friendly Easter basket by repurposing an empty plastic bottle. This easy DIY transforms a cleaned plastic bottle into a small basket using foam, a pipe cleaner handle, and simple decorations. It’s kid-friendly with supervision, reduces waste, and makes a charming container for eggs, treats, or small gifts.
Safety tip: Use a sharp precision knife carefully and wear gloves if needed. Young children should be supervised during cutting and when using hot glue.
Materials
- Plastic bottle (washed, label removed)
- Pipe cleaner (for handle)
- Foam sheet (for rim padding)
- Easter grass, feathers, or other fillers (optional)
Tools
- Scalpel, X-Acto knife, or precision cutting tool
- Scissors
- Hot glue and glue gun
Instructions
1. Prepare the bottle: remove any labels and wash the bottle so it’s clean and dry.

2. Cut the bottle: decide how tall you want the basket and carefully cut off the top using a precision knife. Take your time so the rim is as even as possible.

3. Protect the rim: the cut edge can be sharp. Cut a long strip from a foam sheet and glue it around the exterior rim so the foam protrudes slightly above the plastic edge, softening and hiding the cut.

4. Add a handle: attach a pipe cleaner to the rim with hot glue to form a handle. Make it long enough to easily place or remove items from the basket.

5. Fill and decorate: because the bottle bottom is transparent, choose attractive fillers like coordinating Easter grass, feathers, or small decorations. Add ribbon, stickers, sequins, or wrap fabric around the rim for a different finish. For extra durability, use two pipe cleaners or reinforce the handle with hot glue.

These upcycled baskets make cute table centerpieces, party crafts for kids (with supervision), or a quick last-minute Easter project that keeps plastic out of the trash.
