First, choose and print your butterfly templates. The example uses blue butterflies, but you can mix colors or sizes for more visual interest. Cardstock works best to make the butterflies sturdy.

Print butterflies on cardstock for added stiffness; vary sizes for depth.
Cut out the butterflies carefully. Make different sizes to add dimension, but keep them small enough to fit inside your jar without crumpling.

Cut butterflies and choose a jar that fits your chosen sizes.
Cut lengths of wire in varying lengths — this will help create a layered, floating effect. They donβt need to be identical.

Use different wire lengths to position butterflies at varied heights inside the jar.
Glue one butterfly to the top end of each piece of wire. A hot glue gun works well for a secure bond.

Attach each butterfly to its wire stem with hot glue, holding briefly until set.
Gently fold some butterfly wings in the middle to simulate mid-flight; leave others flat for contrast.

Slightly fold some wings to mimic natural wing movement.

Mix folded and flat butterflies for a more natural look.
When you have enough butterflies assembled and are happy with their arrangement, gather the wire stems together and secure them to the jar lid. You can glue the wire bundle to the inside of the lid or poke a small hole and insert the wires through the lid to anchor them.

Wrap or bind the wire stems together before attaching them to the lid.

Secure the wire bundle to the lid by gluing or inserting through a small hole.

Place the lid back on the jar once the wires are attached and secure.
Place the lid back onto the jar and youβre finished — enjoy your charming butterfly terrarium!
