Turn Plastic Spoons into Bright DIY Flowers — Easy Step-by-Step Craft

Finished DIY plastic spoon flowers in purple and yellow.

Supplies Needed:

  • 3 plastic spoons – I used purple for one flower and yellow spoons for another
  • floral tape
  • green pipe cleaner cut into thirds
  • yellow pipe cleaner cut into halves
  • 1 clear 9oz. cup
  • crinkle cut brown paper shavings
  • A low temp glue gun and glue sticks or an alternative to the glue gun, like Fabri-Tac

Instructions

  1. Face all three spoons inward, forming a triangle with the handles.

Arrange three spoon heads together so they form the petals.

  1. Start wrapping the middle where the handles meet with floral tape and go all the way down — this secures the spoons together so you can continue wrapping.

Wrap floral tape around the center to hold the spoons together.

  1. Wrap the spoons again, this time continuing up the handles to create a neat stem.

Continue wrapping the handles to form the flower stem.

  1. Now insert pieces of the green pipe cleaner into spaces on the taped stem to act as leaves or to bulk up the stem.

Add green pipe cleaner pieces between the handles for leaves and stem structure.

  1. Insert the yellow pipe cleaner down the center of the spoon heads so a bit of yellow shows out of the top to mimic the flower center.
  2. Glue the spoon bouquet to the bottom of the clear cup and fill the cup with crinkle cut brown paper shavings to hold the flowers upright.

Glue the bouquet to the cup base and fill with paper shavings to keep stems in place.

Tips and Tricks for this Spring Flower Craft

  • Use spoons with wide handles — they are the easiest for this craft. Narrow or curved ends can be difficult to match.
  • Use Glue: If the spoon ends won’t sit neatly together, use a low temp glue gun to secure them before wrapping with floral tape.
  • Trim the Handles: If spoon ends are curved, trim them straight so they align better.
  • How to Hold the Flowers Upright: Glue a small piece of styrofoam into the bottom of the cup and push the spoon stems into it for extra support.
