Easy DIY Swinging Easter Chick — Step-by-Step Craft for Kids & Adults

Bring a playful touch to your Easter décor with this easy DIY Swinging Easter Chick. Using simple materials like yarn, wire, felt and a few household supplies, you can craft a cute chick that gently swings from an oval wire frame. This project is family-friendly and great for crafting with kids or for making a handful of decorations to hang around the home.

Materials

• Printable templates
• Wire (to form oval frame)
• Paper (for stuffing core)
• Tape
• Fabric strip (to wrap wire joints)
• Yarn (for chick body)
• Felt (for beak, flowers, leaves)
• Twine
• 3 pins
• 2 black beads (for eyes)
• Black cardboard (or paint cardstock black for glasses)
• Scissors
• Pliers
• Hot glue gun

Step 1

Crumple paper into a small ball (about 1½"), secure with tape, then wrap with yarn until the ball measures roughly 2¼". This becomes the chick's body.

Step 2

Cut a 5" piece of pipe cleaner, thread it through the bottom yarn strands of the ball and bend to secure. Fold the pipe cleaner to form two legs.

Step 3

Using pliers, bend wire into an oval about 5.3" wide and 6" tall. Knot a fabric strip to the wire at the joint and wrap it around the twisted area to cover and secure the connection.

Step 4

Place the wrapped oval with the wrapped section at the bottom and position the yarn ball at the bottom center. Twist each pipe cleaner leg around the wrapped wire to attach the chick to the frame. Add glue where needed for extra security.

Step 5

Download and print the templates. Cut the beak from orange felt and the eyeglass-shaped frame from black cardboard. Fold the eyeglass arms and tuck them into the front center of the yarn ball, securing the ends into the yarn strands.

Step 6

Pin the black beads into the center of each eyeglass opening to form the eyes, piercing through to the paper core. Pin the felt beak in place just below the eyeglasses. Tip: apply a drop of glue to the pin tip before inserting if you want extra hold.

Step 7

Using the templates, cut flowers and leaves from felt. Decorate the lower edge of the oval frame—glue larger leaves first, then layer flowers and small leaves up one side of the oval.

Finish any final adjustments: trim stray yarn, secure loose elements with glue, and attach a loop of twine at the top of the wire so your chick can swing. These make charming hanging decorations for doorways, windows or Easter displays.
